Week One Points!!

We made it through the first week!  Wow, I know my body has been in shock.  I want to hear from you to see how you all are feeling.  I know everyone has been trying their hardest this week.  Remember this is only the first week!  So, whether you have perfect points (which I know some of you do!) or whether you didn't do as well as you hoped, don't be frustrated.  This isn't just about the contest.  Making a change is difficult and we all have different situations that can make it really hard to get all those points each day.  And almost all of us are moms/dads with crazy lives involving multiple kids and their crazy schedules, work, church callings, etc.  Just keep trying your hardest and that's all that matters!!

We had Stake Conference today and it was very interesting that a couple of talks focused on living a healthier lifestyle.  Brother Frogley talked about how so many diseases in our country are directly related to bad choices and being overweight.  He challenged us to look in our pantry and decide if we are trying to live healthy.  He also talked about the word of wisdom and the importance of moderation.  It made me so happy to be participating in this challenge and so grateful to be doing it alongside some great friends.  So, thanks to you all!

Well...here we go!  Post your points by leaving a comment on this post.  And I have found that it doesn't always work if you are trying to post from your phones.  If you can't get your comment to work, please text me.  (Most of you have my cell number.)

  1. I found that I've been hungry when I go to bed, so I may need to eat a banana at 7:55 every night to reassure my stomach that I'm not trying to kill myself. My body's in shock too; it's not used to being denied sugar...but it's going to have to get used to this! I'll post my points tomorrow morning because I haven't earned all of my Sunday points yet.

  3. I'm pretty sure I will have the lowest points every week but that's ok because I can already tell a difference in my body which is what I'm going for. I have 289 points. With 5 kids (2 newborns) and a husband who isn't around... ever, I feel pretty good about how I did this week. It's definitely better than what I was doing before!

If my friend Kati doesn't have enough time to post, she is awesome and had a perfect week! All you girls and guys who had a perfect week, I think you are so awesome, good work!

    2. Brie, I am at 288. Please do not feel bad. Slow and Steady wins the race. At least my race. It will still be good for us.

  4. 308 for me, hopefully this week will be better. My issue is freezing temperatures and not wanting to go outside for exercise. I will do better this week.

  5. 346 for me. Strugging to get 8 hours of sleep each night and still fit in exercise in the morning! Thanks for doing this Jenny!

  11. WOW....Caldwell's 352....Really!! ;) I'm pretty for sure working nights is going to kill my point system, but who knew I would still be alive just by eating only 1 treat a day!! My total points for week 1 are...342.5

  13. 1 week down, 11 more to go!!! I got 352! The weekends are a lot harder for me, yesterday we had a Missionary Homecoming and an 18th birthday party later that night. Somehow I managed to not eat any treats at the Homecoming and only 1 small piece of BTS cake at the bday party! No ice cream for me!!! It was so empowering to watch everyone else eat their cake, ice cream, cup cakes with cookie dough on top, chocolates, and cookies and know that I accomplished my goal and was actually being nice to my body!!! Ha Ha! I know I saved myself a lot of calories each day this past week, by not eating what ever the heck I wanted! It feels good to have some control! Thanks Jenny for doing this, it has been so good for me to have a plan and get on a better schedule!

  14. As far as I know, I'm the only person doing this who has a lot of weight to lose, but I just have to say how EXCITED I am to be doing this because I lost 3.4 pounds this week! Shellie, you're right...it feels so good to be treating my body better! Now if I can just convince myself that an orange is a better dessert than a candy bar (and do about four 12-week iterations of this challenge), I'll be able to lose the 65+ pounds that are slowing me down. I'd love to hear if others are losing weight too, unless you'd like to keep that private.

    1. Jan, I lost a few pounds as well! I was very exited.....until I went out of town for the weekend. Now I don't dare get back on the scale. Keep up the good work!

    1. I love that this is working so well for us. And it's really not all that hard since we get that one precious treat per day.

  16. I am with Brie 288. I knew I would not be able to have high points but I still wanted to be a part. I will probably never be able to eat before 8pm. During the teen years, if you want to sit down to dinner, it is usually at 8:30. With all their activities etc. Also, I hope others end up going out of town for the weekend, that is a killer on points. No, I hope you all do well. I am going to stay with this because it is still pushing me to do more than I was doing and keeps me aware of my goal. Thanks Jenny!!!

  17. Everyone did so well! I am seriously dying at the tough competition we have! Great job everyone! Even the men did amazing! I feel the same way as you all about what a great a huge help this has been for me. It was really difficult getting an hour of exercise in but I did every day. It feels so good to be healthy. I feel like this is more than a competition, it's a lifestyle change. It has not only been good for me, but my family too. Today my kids didn't have school and they were down exercising with me and they were even counting their fruit and veggie intake. :) It is so important to be good examples. So, keep up the good work! And remember that it's okay to have a bad day once in a while. Don't be frustrated with yourself!

    1. You are awesome Tammy! I think if you are working nights, you should be able to eat after 8 p.m. There is no way that can apply to you while staying up all night! Espcially because I know you are eating all veggies anyway!
Andrea, how did that work for you when working nights? (She's a nurse too.)

    2. Yes. You are right, I won't whine anymore. There is no way I could work night shifts and keep up with it all! Kuddos to you! I'm with Jenny... you shouldn't have to do the no eating after 8 p.m. As long as it isn't crazy unhealthy eating all night long you should just keep your 5 points. :) Besides those people deserve to have good nurses! So you, Andrea and any other night shift people should re-tally your points. Camille Hustad

  19. Yea, I think my computer is finally working. Sorry my post is late. If I could post from my phone I would have done it Monday. :) I got 345 points last week. Way to go to all of you! This is such a good challenge for me and it is exactly what I needed!

  20. I agree that those working night shifts should be able to eat through the night!

I need some help here. If we have a snack of a sugary cold cereal, such as Reese's Puffs, should that count as dessert? I ate some yesterday without really thinking (I believe that "thoughtless" eating is how I got to this weight), and then I realized it was possibly too sweet to be counted as a snack. Then, just to be safe, I ate my REAL dessert in the same sitting and counted all of it as a dessert.

    Any thoughts?
